CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES

At Large

  • Jeff Walker

Jeff wants to reform public safety departments and is just another social justice warrior. We’ve seen what reducing punishments for criminals has done to our city, Colorado is the worst state in the nation for auto thefts. Obviously, social justice reform isn’t working.

  • Travis Leiker

    TravisLeiker.com

The candidates for District 10, newly arranged to encompass all of the Central Business District, should be falling over each other to holler their strong support for saving downtown as the economic engine of the state.

However, Travis is filling that silence with his goal of returning downtown to a safe and inviting place to work, live and play. As one of the few At-Large candidates to support enforcing the camping ban, he signals an emphasis on public safety. His belief in the Built For Zero model echos our urgent calls for a by-name directory to help the people living on our streets and measure success.

  • Tim Hoffman

    TimforDenver

Tim has said he believes in enforcing the camping ban. Tim recognizes the importance of the shelter system as a first step in combating a large and complex challenge of people living on our streets.

  • Sarah Parady

    Sara4theCriminalsofDenver

    🚩WARNING - DSA ENDORSED CANDIDATE🚩

No. Candi CdeBaca should be enough warning that we do not need more candidates supported by Democratic Socialists of America.

At first glance, Sarah Parady’s campaign page **parodies** that of someone who cares about her city and the people that live in it. Though, we quickly saw right through that. Some of Sarah’s “solutions” to homelessness include “housing first” and expanding Safe Outdoor Sites to a location near you! As a cherry of top…Sarah wants to create safe use / consumption sites around the city where drug addicts and dealers can gather, since that worked out so well at the Linkage center in San Fran.

District 4

  • Diane Romero-Campbell

    DianaforDenver

Diana has committed to enforcing the camping ban. She is light on specific approaches to address the service-resistant people who continue to live on our sidewalks and in RVs. However, she has show interest in the by-name data-driven approach and the recovery oriented system of care Citizens for a Safe & Clean Denver is advocating for.

  • Tony Pigford

    🚩WARNING - DSA ENDORSED CANDIDATE🚩

Tony is not in favor of enforcing the camping ban. He joins the other candidates supported by the Democratic Socialists of America in policies that will attract more people experiencing homelessness to the Mile High City.

District 7

  • Guy Padgett

Guy acknowledges that Denver is facing a crime wave not seen in over 30 years and wants to increase the police presence so that officers are visible and accessible to their communities. Guy believes that connecting officers with the community will restore officer accountability and approachability.

Guy also accepts that safe outdoor sites are a band-aid and believes that if the state is going to actually shelter people permanently, they need to expand mental health and drug treatment services.

  • Flor Alvidrez

    FlorforDenver

Flor is a lifelong Denver District 7 resident, passionate small business owner, and a mother. Flor is also an active and engaged community member.

Flor has witnessed firsthand, alongside all of us, the degradation of our city. Lack of enforcement and accountability are among the factors Flor recognizes as leading Denver to its current state where crime goes unpunished, and the actual victims are shamed for speaking up.

Public safety is now a major concern in Denver, which Flor acknowledges is unacceptable. Flor recognizes that it is Denver’s job to keep its residents safe.

Flor says she will advocate to bolster law enforcement, clean-up our open spaces, enforce the camping ban, and improve access to affordable housing. We are excited about Flor’s positive attitude and her commitment to address the concerns of the residents in her community.

  • Adam Estroff

Adam supports Safe Outdoor Spaces, which attract crime, drugs and destruction (Read CBS article - 8th and Elati SOS Site Burns). Adam also believes that “The Colorado Legislature should end the prohibition on safe use sites.” Adam wants to bring a safe injection / use site to a neighborhood near you! Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up to Denver Health ambulance sirens and the smell of fentanyl smoke?

The root cause of homelessness is not housing as Estroff suggests. It’s addiction and mental illness. SACD will continue to support recovery and does not believe in enabling addiction.

District 9

  • Candi CdeBaca (incumbent)

    🚩WARNING - DSA ENDORSED CANDIDATE🚩

Candi wants to replace the police with a ‘peace force’. As a group, we are concerned with the safety of all of Denver, and this just might be the worst idea we’ve ever heard. Candi also opposes the camping ban, which 83% of Denver supports. Candi openly admits that she doesn’t represent her district equally…and that she would rather focus on the “voice of the marginalized”.

  • Darrell Watson

    WatsonforDenver

One of Darrell’s priorities is to reduce crime and invest in Denverites. Darrell was also Co-Chair of the Denver Biased Policing Task Force, to work alongside the Denver police officers to introduce new training to reduce the occurrence of biased policing.

Darrell is also a primary author of the Denver Housing and Stability (HOST) Five-Year Plan. The plan was largely silent about how to deal with service-resistant addicts living in tents on our streets. Denver needs an answer to rescue these poor souls and this extensive plan willfully ignored them.

Darrell supports Denver’s urban camping ban, alongside 83% of Denver.

  • Kwon Atlas

    KwonAtlas

Kwon is a business owner and father in the Five Points neighborhood. He is a community leader who until recently reported directly to Mayor Hancock. Though he is a young candidate, he is miles better than the incumbent.

Kwon supports Denver’s urban camping ban, alongside 83% of Denver.

District 10

  • Chris Hinds (incumbent)

    ChrisforDenver

Chris is a strong advocate for equitable access to housing, transportation, and representation and was successful in raising the minimum wage to combat the rising cost of living Denver. Chris also acknowledges that the neighbors support encampment cleanups and that they are necessary to keep Denver safe and clean.

However, Chris has voted consistently for the policies that create our current situation. He is part of the City Council who administers contracts with the ever-expanding Homeless Industrial Complex. The current council refuses to measure the extensive spending on contractors by useful metrics - "contacts" and "offers" are not working. Chris is deeply knowledgeable about the situation. However, his recent introduction of legislation with Robin Kniech to allow Tina Axelrod to unilaterally locate a "low-barrier," i.e. addiction tolerant, tent community in any neighborhood for up to four years should give Denverites pause. Renaming them Temporary Managed Communities is not fooling us. His warmth toward opening a permitted drug use site at 8th and Lincoln in District 10 and his stated position on not enforcing the camping ban suggest District 10 needs to look at different candidates.

  • Shannon Hoffman

    🚩WARNING - DSA ENDORSED CANDIDATE🚩

Shannon led a research team of community members who filed more than 60 Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) documents to gain insight into the cost of cleanups of unhoused “neighbors”. Shannon was attempting to stop the city from protecting citizens from "neighbors" camping, criming, sexing, defecating, prostituting, and fighting in actual neighbors’ yards.

We know that these cleanups are necessary to maintain public health and safety. Looks like Shannon is wasting the city’s time and money.

  • Margie Morris

    MargieforDenver

Margie has 2 decades experience in the Homeless Industry in addiction treatment, mental healthcare, and homelessness in another city. She is well versed in the realities. Her emphasis on merely "offering" better and better housing options concerns us. Denver has more than a dozen city-funded groups providing repeated "outreach" to "build rapport" and "offer services." Margie is likely to continue this approach. On the other hand, she sees the inefficiency of the large number of service providers and outreach groups. She will champion a fully integrated, coordinated, and data-driven system of care to solve homelessness collaboratively.

Margie intends to enforce the camping ban to move unhoused residents from the streets to healing and housing, using judicial diversion programs where appropriate.
