Leslie Herod: Bringing a Drug Den to a Neighborhood Near You

Running for HD8 (Nov 2022) and Mayor (April 2023)

  • Herod Was A Primary Sponsor of HB19-1263

HB19-1263 made possession of 4 grams or less of a controlled substance listed in schedule I or II a level 1 drug, including heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine a misdemeanor. Now, drug addicts openly smoke and inject schedule I and II level drugs in public spaces with no consequences.

  • Herod Wants to Open "Safe" Injection Sites

Herod has sponsored several bills to “combat” the opioid crisis that have directly resulted in the demise of Denver. A “safe” injection site was proposed alongside five other bills in 2017 (including HB19-1263). Since these bills were proposed and after they went into effect…overdoses and crime have skyrocketed; proof that heroin Herod’s bills are having an undesired outcome on the opioid crisis.

  • Herod's Harm Induction Policies Have Led to Thousands of Overdoses

For 20 years in Colorado, radicals, like “Heroin” Herod and Lisa “Free Needles” Raville have boasted about how their government drug policies & needle exchange centers save lives, but the numbers don’t lie. Drug OD’s have gone up EVERY single year since these radicals have unleashed their pro-drug, anti-sobriety programs on Colorado.

Drug OD deaths skyrocketed dramatically in 2020, when Colorado law HB19-1263 decriminalized heroin, fentanyl and meth.

  • Herod Wants to Eliminate Cash Bail and Free Violent Criminals

Despite an increasing crime rate and growing population in Colorado, the total correctional population have decreased. It’s pretty simple…More criminals on our streets = More crime in our city.

The elimination of cash bail for personal recognizance (“PR”) bonds will release thousands of dangerous criminals onto our streets, where they will continue committing the crimes they were jailed for. The number of PR bonds in Denver increased by over 61% the last two years and has even increased for more serious crimes.

  • Herod Wants to Hand Out More Free Needles and "Safer Smoking Kits"

Herod Wants to Hand Out More Free Needles and "Safer Smoking Kits"

Her campaign says she wants to “expand access to substance use disorder treatments” …. Don’t let this fool you. Despite its compassionate portrayal, the result is keeping people sick and addicted.

Herod is the chair of Caring for Denver, which funds Harm Reduction Action Center (“HRAC”) with sales tax dollars. Herod is paying for free needles and bubble pipes with your sales tax dollars.

In our government’s sincere attempts to “help” the homeless, we have prevented many homeless people from achieving their potential. Allowing the homeless to behave without the rules to which we all must adhere to thrive - prevents the government from effectively addressing the nation’s homelessness crisis.

  • Herod is Trying to Destigmatize Drug Use

Leslie Herod and her pal Lisa Raville (of HRAC) want to destigmatize and normalize drug use. They want Narcan in every citizen’s pocket, putting the responsibility for saving an addict’s life on the pedestrian citizen instead of on law-enforcement and drug treatment professionals, where it belongs. Preventing overdoses through rehabilitation and treatment used to be our approach in 2018, now we are educating middle schoolers on how to test their illicit drugs for fentanyl. This is a normalization that we should reject as a society.

  • As a Result...Crime Is Skyrocketing

Colorado is the worst state in the nation for auto theft.

  • And Mental Health is Plummeting

Since HB19-1263 went into effect, Colorado went from 29th worst to the worst for various mental health metrics. Not a coincidence. Mental health problems and drug addiction are two sides of the same coin. One often induces the other. Regardless of the cause, mental health conditions cannot be addressed until the substance abuse is curtailed. Step 1 for rescuing our deeply troubled unsheltered addicts should be treatment, not enabling them to continue their use of life-threatening drug use.
